Tom De Bruyne explains our pair programming based assessments, enabling you to effectively select top talents from numerous applicants

Selection of the right candidate is vital but can be difficult due to the large number of applicants or due to the technicity of the profile. To address this, our CEO Tom De Bruyne explains our tailored assessments. These assessments ensure that you can successfully select the right candidate to fill core positions in your development team. For this purpose, Tektra deploys its talent assessment and pair-programming expertise.

This is where Tektra assists recruitment and sourcing organisations with pair-programming backed assessment services. Hence this service guarantees your success in signing the right CTO, specialist, architect, team lead … or all of the above.

Hello, I’m Tom De Bruyne, managing director at Tektra.

Looking back at 2024, we’ve certainly witnessed a significant shift. We moved from a structural shortage of candidates for IT positions to a situation with an oversupply of candidates. For a recruiter opening a position, the challenge has shifted from “Can I find a good candidate?” to “How do I make an informed choice from potentially hundreds of candidates received within a few days?”

This is precisely the problem Tektra has addressed by developing a specific solution: conducting pair programming backed assessments. Our assessments evaluate soft skills and experience but also technical expertise. While technical evaluations can be done using online tools, they don’t provide the same insight as observing the interaction between programmers to understand how a candidate codes and assesses their knowledge and skill level.

To address this, we’ve developed an objective system. For each programming language, we’ve compiled exams with specific tasks related to frameworks, etc. Based on the candidate’s ability to complete these tasks correctly, a score is generated much like a traditional exam score. This objective scoring method eliminates bias from candidate evaluations, providing a reliable assessment.

At the same time, this process is both time and labor intensive, requiring several hours per candidate, making it relatively costly. To address this, we’ve organized ourselves to deliver these assessments in a highly lean and cost-efficient manner. This allows recruiters to save significant time while obtaining valuable insights to make the right selection decision.

If you have questions or are facing the challenge of distinguishing the best candidates from the rest, feel free to reach out to us. Thank you!
